Parish Mission Committee
Contact: Daniel Arceo - (310) 327-3237

Description: St. Catherine Laboure Parish is proud to be part of the mission tie up program of the Archdiocese. Our Mission Committee was started in 2002. Rev. Fr. John Joseph Sundaram (Fr. JJ), our former student resident, initiated this program and formed the committee with twelve members. We gather once a month. In our meetings we pray for the local parish and discuss a theme relating to the mission of Jesus. We share our views and reflect on the need to be active evangelizers. We discuss the happenings in our adopted parish and their needs. The vision of the committee is to create greater awareness for the need for mission among parishioners, to search for the stranded parishioners, to comfort the people in need and pain and to make each parishioner and effective evangelizer.

Additional Parish Mission Committee Information
Saint Catherine Laboure Parish is proud to be part of the mission tie up program of the Archdiocese, which was started in 2002 with the blessings of our compassionate pastor, Rev. Msgr. John O'Byrne. Since then the mission committee has grown as a viable tool for the evangelization of the local parish and our adopted parish.

Rev. Fr. John Joseph Sundaram (Fr. JJ), the former student resident in our parish, initiated this program and formed the twelve member committee. The committee president is Mr. Danial Arceo and the vice president is Mr. Joe West. As per the directive of the Archdiocese the mission group chose a third world parish. We chose Moovanur in India, which is part of Fr. JJ's home diocese. We asked the adopted parish to form a mission committee to coordinate the mission work.

Our committee gathers once a month. During our meetings we pray for the local parish and discuss a theme relating to the mission of Jesus. We share our views and reflect on the need to be active evangelizers. We discuss the happenings in the adopted parish and their needs. In 2003, hearing about their need for a drinking water borewell, we arranged a fundraiser and built a borewell which provides enough water for the village.

Last year we had another fundraiser for a chapel in a substation where there was no permanent structure for worship. These fundraisers would not be possible without the hard work of the mission committee members and the generosity of the parishioners. We also would like to express our gratitude to the pastor for his encouragement and support.

The vision of the committee is to create greater awareness for the need for mission among the parishioners, to search for the stranded parishioners, to comfort the people in need and pain and to make each parishioner and effective evangelizer.

The committee will choose a third world parish every three years and study the needs and help it financially. We also would urge it to seek integral growth in the parish at all age levels.
