Religious Aspects of the Quinceañera
In order to bring out the religious and spiritual dimensions, as Catholics we celebrate this custom with a special emphasis on the awareness and sensitivity of the young lady in living with Christian values. We encourage the family to celebrate the event in the simplest way possible to avoid financial excesses and the appearance that it is a 'mini-wedding'.

The Quinceañera celebration is not a sacrament. However, the young woman is still expected to be a fully initiated Catholic. This means she should have received the Sacraments of:

• Baptism
• Eucharist - if she has not received her First Communion, then the celebration can be a Liturgy of the Word.
• Confirmation - enrollment in Elementary Religious Education for one year prior to her Quinceañera (8th grade) or participating in the YouthQuest Confirmation program is a requirement.
• A Quinceañera class is mandatory.

• The religious medal represents an expression of faith and trust.
• The ring represents the responsibilities of the 'quinceañera' towards God and the Church.
• The crown represents the victories of the young lady in trying to live a Christian life in the midst of all the problems and challenges of her environment.
• The flowers symbolize the newness of the commitment and responsibility of the Catholic Christian community.

The donation to the parish is $500. A deposit of $250 is due at the time of booking to reserve the date and $250 is due a month prior to the celebration. The coordinator fee is an additional $100. Our Quinceañera contact person is Angela Martinez-Morvice and she can be reached by calling (310) 515-6033. The organist fee is separate. To make arrangements for music please contact Isolde Amadeah at (310) 263-0134. She must be contacted for any requested music arrangements. Mariachi is not allowed.

The family is required to be a registered and contributing member of the St. Catherine Laboure parish. Parents should contact the parish office at least six months in advance of the desired date of the Quinceañera.

Religious Aspects of the Quinceañera
Para la jóven católica cristiana, la celebración tiene sobre todo una dimension religiosa y espiritual. Se debe evitar la tendencia a que el evento se convierta en un acontecimiento 'de clase', una 'mini boda', con un derroche de dinero, olvidándose así de la virtudes cristianas.

La celebración de la Quinceañera no es un Sacramento. Sin embargo, se require que la jóven de hecho haya recibido:

• Bautismo
• La Eucaristía - Si no la ha recidbido, la celebración puede ser reemplazada por una Liturgía de la Palabra.
• Confirmación - Tiene que estar inscrita en las clases Elementales de Educación Religiosa, un años (grado 8) o estar participando en Youth Quest, clases de Confirmación.
• Tambian tiene que participar en unas clases especials para la preparación de las Quinceañeras.

• La medalla representa la expression de la fe y es un símbolo de la proteccion divina. A veces en lugar de la medalla se lleva una pequeña cruz o un pequeño crucifijo.
• El anillo representa la responsabilidad que une a la jóven con Dios y la comunidad.
• La corona representa los triunfos de la jóven, que a pesar de los problemas y las tentaciones del medio ambiente, ha sabido llevar una vida cristiana.
• Las flores representan los compromisos que se acaban de adquirir para con la sociedad y para consigo misma. Son la representación de una vida nueva.
